African masks and performances

One of our greatest achievements is the foundation of a seasonal workshop in Yokele, Togo named “Atelier Les Voyageurs”.
“Atelier Les Voyageurs” is a cultural exchange project sited in the school "Maison des Enfants, Adidogome, Lomè".
The aim was the collective creation of a theatre performance for the Yokéle community.
The mission? Promote personal expression and break down communication barriers, through the masks' qualities and community theatre.
Both the final theatre performances were shown to the community at the end of each course, and acclaimed by everyone with great joy!

African masks and mask work
Considering the importance of the mask culture we developed some mystical plays, far from typical. Masks are a piece of the soul confidence of African individuals. They are important memorial tools and hold different functions to mollify the spirits.

L'Araignèe et la mort

2018

Our courses boast a tailor-made solution in which the techniques of the Italian “Commedia dell'Arte” meet the traditions of the African masks.
L'araignèe et la mort: the play based on the Togolese folk tale. We have created a bond based on passion, commitment and trust. We worked with strategy and sharing.
We researched fairy tales, songs, stories, poems, stories and together we chose the traditional story of "The spider and death". The preparation of the show was divided into 2 moments:
1. technical theatrical preparation and mask-making;
2. playtime and targeted exercise, assembly of the materials and rehearsals.
The final performance was directed by Davide Falbo.

Histoire di village

2019

Italians and Togolese worked together, unity is the keyword. The preparation of the show was divided into 2 moments:
1. technical theatre preparation and masks-making;
2. playtime and targeted exercise, assembly of the material created and doubt sharing.
Both moments aimed at joining the group and providing everyone with the tools to go on stage.
The final performance was "Histoire du village", directed by Federico Regonesi.

We had a significant collaboration with "Oltre i Confini Onlus" and "JED Togo".
